I Lied

Ok, I've decided that I am actually going to set some New Years resolutions, despite my claim that I never do so. Because I realized, after reading several other people's blog posts about NYRs, that there is one area that I am/have been a serious slacker in: the spiritual stuff. So my New Years Resolution for 2009 is to be more spiritual and do more of the spiritual daily grind. Specifically...

1) Read my scriptures. Guess how many times I read my scriptures outside of church this last year? Zero. Yes, go ahead and faint. Stand far from me so the lightning won't hit you too. But it's true. So although it would be nice to say my goal is to read my scriptures every day, that is not likely to happen. So I'm going to go for hoping to read my scriptures at least every week. And if I can do it multiple days in the week, all the better.

2) Fast. Guess how many times this last year I remembered to fast on Fast Sunday? Once. Last month. Pathetic, I know. I think it's because I was pregnant, then nursing, then pregnant, then nursing for so long that I just got out of the habit of fasting. So my goal this year is to remember to fast every month.

3) Stop lying about New Years resolutions.

I've been sitting here for the last 20 minutes, thinking about the spiritual goals I want to make too. And I am horrible at fasting!

I want to specifically make more couples goals, like starting to pray together again, and read scriptures together.

Good luck on your goals!

I gave up on goals along time ago and started with living by a word of the year last year. Love the concept and it's so much more attainable!

Happy New Year to you and yours!!

I am not going to tell you how many times I read the BOM in my life. It's pretty bad seeing as how it totals the same that you read it last year. :o

That is one thing I really need to work on as well. Obviously.

Nice to see some resolutions in your sights. I certainly don't think they are unreasonable. Totally attainable. Even if all you do is read the Sunday School reading assignment. It can be enough. Or really, an Ensign article, doesn't that count as scripture?
Good luck girl!

I don't make resolutions because I feel like, in order to change (which is the point) I have to be ready. I'm not going to be ready just because the calendar says January 1. That being said, I do have a resloution to read my scriptures more. That shouldn't be too big deal. Not like losing 30 pounds or not biting my nails.

There are a few areas where I could improve in the spirituality area as well. Consistent reading is one of them. I am so much better at studying my scriptures when I have some sort of teaching calling.

I always tell myself I need to be better about reading my scripture, but then it only lasts a couple months. Sad really since I used to read the BOM once a year from the time I got baptized for a couple years. I really miss that.
