I Hate Tile

There's not much more to say other than that. I hate tile. More exactly, I hate grout. If tile hadnospacesinbetweenitfordirttogetstuckin, I'd probably like it a lot better. But as it is, with a 1/4 inch grout line of cream colored dirt colored grout, it is nearly impossible to keep clean or to make LOOK clean. Even after it has been swept and mopt to within an inch (make that 1/4 inch) of its life, it is still always grungy looking. In my next house, there will be no tile. There will be hardwood and carpet, stamped cement, and even vinyl flooring if necessary. But until they invent a tile floor where the grout is made of anti-dirt-magnetic material, there will be NO tile in my house. Thank heavens I only have it in two small bathrooms in my house. If I lived in California and it was on every floor AND the countertop, I would have left my husband a widower long long ago. Tile and I don't mix.

yes, yes, I hear you. Our current rental has white tile counters with old nasty grout and it is the bane of my existance. No matter what I do it. never. looks. clean. And for me with my little OCD problem, somedays it almost drives me to drink.

I hate tile too! We have it in our bathrooms in this house which I don't mind, but we had it in our kitchen in the last house and hated it!! Everything shattered when you dropped it. I did find a way to clean the grout though. Clorox spray cleaner. Spray it on the grout, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe off. I even did it on my taupe colored grout and it lightened it without whitening it. Just make sure you get it all wiped off.

I too hate tile. I sucks and it's cold. We have this awesome ( I'm gonna say Linoleum) stuff in our house that looks like slate, and you actually can't tell until you walk on it. I love it because it has no grout spaces, it only looks like it does

I have always loathed tile for all the above stated reasons: too hard, too cold, dirty grout. But hugs to Tammy for telling all of you unfortunate tile owners what to do. Jennie W's tiled kitchen floors and counters drive me INSANE!!! And I notice she broke all but two of her 14 new drinking glasses in the first 3 months she lived on tile. You couldn't PAY me (honest and truly, I mean with lots of money) to have tile floors or counters. I'll take cushy vinyl on the floor (ahhhhh for my feet and no broken dishes) and Corian or Formica on my counter tops, even if you mock me.

And Granite! Have you ever noticed the zillion tiny pits in granite counters? You could have blobs of rotting food and never be able to see it? You granite-girls might as well make your sandwiches on a nicely swept floor. (Clorox applied daily for 15 minutes may kill the lurking germs -- until next time you fix food on it. Think of whether your family has a lot of diarrhea or stomach flue.)

Man, am I a spoil-sport today!

I even tried to get dirt-colored tile in this house, and it still looks dirty. I like tile better than linoleum though.
