Brownies With Cookies

Thank Goodness I have some little girls in my neighborhood who take part in the Scouting program. Every year these two little Brownies show up at my door to sell me Girl Scout Cookies. And every year, though I'm usually trying desperately to undo the madness (i.e. fatness) created on my waistline over the holidays, I always order a bunch. How can I not? They're a tradition. A rite of passage. An American icon in cookie form! It's actually kind of unpatriotic not to order Girl Scout Cookies, in my opinion. Besides, it helps support a good cause. You know...uh....little girls wandering around neighborhoods by themselves, peddling sweets to complete strangers. It's a noble cause if I ever heard of one.

Personally, I'm a Tagalongs fan. They're the best ones. A light crispy cookie with a soft pool of peanut butter in the middle and a coating of delicious chocolate over the whole thing. Divine. I also like the Thin Mints. Although normally crisp cookies don't do much for me, these are so light and thin that you can eat about 12 for the calories of 1 Tagalong. At least that's what I tell myself after I start on my second dozen. As a child I was a big fan of the Samoas. Everything sweet layered on top of more sweet, covered in still more sweet. What more could a child want? But now...well, they're just too sweet. And yet, every year my husband orders a couple of boxes. He, like I, has this distinct memory from childhood of biting into the most sugar-laden cookie ever invented. And loving it. So he orders a couple of boxes, only to bite into the first cookie and say with disappointment, "Oh. These aren't that good. Why did I think I liked these?" Because, Silly. Girl Scout Cookies are made with cocaine. That's how they get you to spend $50 on cookies, year after year.

You know, some people may dislike the idea of 8 year old drug pushers. But I'm Ok with the way they work. Because I don't have a problem. I WANT to eat Girl Scout Cookies. They don't control me; I can quit any time I want.

(But I'm putting a few dozen boxes of Tagalongs in the freezer this year....just in case.)

My husband has two little adopted sisters, and they were selling them. He didn't buy the Tagalongs!! We got the Thin Mints, however. Delicious!

Something must be missing in my brain, because I have never really liked Girl Scout cookies...

I know, I know---its un-American! I am ashamed, but even when I got them for the kids, I would try to eat one and go---ew---its a hard, bought cookie.

I prefer homemade oatmeal or peanut butter cookies---yummy!

I LOVE Samoas...I still think the sugary deliciousness is D-LICIOUS! I love thin mints took, and Dosi-Do's are D-LIGHTFUL! I just asked Kenny about Girl Scout Cookies, and to my dismay, someone already came around at work, and he told them no thanks. WHAT???? So...if any of you have the hook up, I need my fix!

This is my daughter's first year selling them so I'm doing my best to prepare her, practicing the sales pitch, showing her how to give recommendations, teaching her how to do the puppy dog eyes when they turn her down- tagalongs are my favorite too. I love thin mints but don't Keebler grasshoppers taste exactly the same, and they're 30% cheaper?

SAMOAS! I don't even need milk when I eat them, my mouth waters so much at their hyper-gooey deliciocity. (PLEASE hide them when I come to baby sit!)

Oh yes.. have you ever had the girl scout cookie icecream? The Samoas ice cream is so darn good. They have thin mint too.

Im glad I have no brownies pedeling cookies. I have to make the effort to go buy some when they sell them at stores like Walmart. Never had a tagalong though.. Maybe I should try.

ok...I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I have Girl Scout Cookies in my food storage. Now, I could go pull from my food storage and be completely satisfied, but I'm scared to eat them until I have a replacement for them. SOMEONE, please, HELP!

You're right-it IS unAmerican to refuse to buy girl scout cookies! Just ordered my thin mints last week!

I think I'm feeling that economic pinch now. I only ordered 8 boxes. I used to buy like 15. ha.

They're too expensive for me, but the Girl Scouts are making a killing on legalized addictions.
