The Peep-less Tom

All I know is, if I were vindictive, litigious, and hot headed, I could probably have filed a serious sexual harrassment suit against Gold's Gym today. Here's the story...

I decided to go to water aerobics today. Sometimes I just like to switch it up. I was sore from the P90X and I thought the warm water would feel good (and it did). During the class, a couple of maintanance guys came into the pool area and started looking up at a vent above the pool. And the teacher asked them if they would replace the light bulbs that were burnt out. which was about half of them. There were big rectangular openings in the cieling with 4 flourescent tubes in each, and most of them had at least half of the bulbs burnt out. So a few minutes later, one of the maintanance guys came back in with a gigantic ladder and started replacing the light bulbs around the pool.

Flash forward 45 minutes. My class was over and I headed to the showers. I had brought all my stuff with me to get ready. So I took my contacts out and started shampooing. I got through the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash and was just finishing up when I looked up and saw....drumroll please....the maintainance guy up on his ladder with a straight line of sight onto my naked body. He wasn't looking at me as far as I could tell, but I didn't have my contacts in so I wasn't sure. He was on the other side of the pool. But because he was up so high, he could see above the 10 foot high privacy wall around the entrance to the ladies locker room. The showers were just inside the locker room, and the first stall, which I was in, was only about 8 feet behind the privacy wall. so there you have it. I was showering in front of the maintanance man the whole time, as far as I could tell!

But I wanted to see if the guy was spying on me or not. So I put my towel on and put my contacts back in. And then I stood there for 2 or 3 minutes, just watching him, waiting to see if he would turn and look at me. But he never did. He definitely could see me if he wanted to. But either he somehow hadn't noticed "the view" or else he was politely trying to avoid looking, like a good boy. He disappeared a few minutes later and then reappeared on the closer side of the pool, just on the other side of the privacy wall. I saw his ladder go up, then him go up, and he passed above my line of sight. Again, I waited and he never looked. So I finally left to get dressed, convinced that he at least hadn't been trying to see me shower.

On my way out, I stopped by the manager's office and told him he had probably better have the maintainance guy wait until people left for the night before replacing the lights since he could see right into the showers. The doofus said he would probably have someone put a sign in the shower area that maintanance was working within eyesight. OR YOU COULD HAVE THE MAINTAINANCE GUY WAIT TO PUT THE LIGHTS IN UNTIL NO ONE WAS SHOWERING!!!

So that's my story of the Peepless Tom. Should I sue? 1.2 million has a nice ring to it...

I'm really impressed that the guy wasn't looking. It is weird, though, that it couldn't wait until the building was closed or at least no one was showering.

Definitely sue.

Just SO said...

Get on the phone now with a lawyer. ;)

Or at least email Gold's headquarters. Maybe you can get a free year membership out of it.

I like So's idea. Complain loud enough and you are likely to get a free membership.....
And he was totally looking. DUH!! : )

Was he cute?

All I can say is "WOW"! I don't think I want a Gold's Gym membership anymore.

Well, we DO have to keep our priorities straight: You've already paid your money, so NOW who's more important to the gym?

I would never suggest you slash the manager's tires. NEVER!

I agree with Veronica! What a guy to not look! But what an awkward thing for you! Yikes... :P

He was probably installing a mini video camera so he could watch you later. You should sue Gold's, the maintenance guy, and the manager for $2.1 million each.

AAAAhhhh---this would freak me out!

Or maybe you should use it mentally for some weird, sick fantasy...

I'm with the others...complain to corporate about it. Really, that is just stupid. Especially the guy at the front desk. They expect people to NOT shower after working out? Dumb.

If I was that maintenance man, I would've looked. (But I didn't in Vegas FYI)

That is way creepy.
