Austroczechhungdanemanxglish

I was sitting here thinking of what to write about (and am considering the ideas I've gotten so far on my suggestions post for tomorrow...keep 'em coming!), when I realized it is St.Patrick's day today. I don't really know much about St. Patrick. I think he is the guy who played the flute to drive all the rats out of Ireland. Or the violin to drive all the British out of Ireland? Maybe I'm confusing history with Disney. At any rate, all I know is St.Patty's day is generally a day to celebrate being Irish. Which I'm not. I still like to dress up in green and show a little of my Team Ireland spirit. But I also think we should have an official holiday to celebrate each of our individual heritage. So I designate March 18th, tomorrow, as Austroczechhungdanemanxgish Day. Because that's my heritage: Austrian, Czech, Hungarian, Danish, Manx and English. What is Manx, you ask? It's like English, but without a tail. Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to find a way to show off MY heritage. It will probably have to involve wearing Tracht, drawing my eyebrows a lot thicker (Czechs are Eastern European, you know), not eating for half the day (that's the Hungary party) and then eating a bunch of breakfast items the other half of the day (Danishes and English muffins). How to celebrate the Manx part.....um....wear cat ears? Or a tail stub? Sounds doable. And since the flags of all my motherlands have red on them, tomorrow I shall wear red.

I think this holiday could catch on. It sounds way more fun than Saint Patrick's day. And involves way less hangover. In fact, I think you should all show your support of ME tomorrow. Start with the red. And then if you're feeling very patriotic, you can dress like this:

We might even be able to combine your heritage in there too. So let me know where your ancestors came from and I could rework the costume to include a sombrero or wooden shoes or hairy legs or something. If we do this holiday right, who knows....in 5 or 10 years, St. Patrick's day could be obsolete and we all might be celebrating Austroczechhungdanemanxglish Day! Who's in?

Her teeth look too straight and white to be from any of those places. Top Gear (a BBC car program) goes to the Isle of Man often for testing sports cars. Sounds cooler than weird cats.

I'm in. I think that the heavy eyebrows could really catch on! And I love red.

Jennie W, SURE we have Czeck! If you would just do your genealogy.... It could be that at the time your ancestor was born there, however, it was called something else, like the Austrian Empire.

Arianne, HOW, HOW, HOW did you create that amazing picture!?!?!?!?

Mom, my amazing photoshoppinggenius of a husband made that picture for me, of course. I had to specifically instruct him NOT to make it look too good so that it would fit the piece-meal theme of my post.

As the family genealogist...I will bebunk. Yes, the Davis' have Irish blood. (Not much, but there's some.)

Yes, the Nicholes line brings us Czech blood, from the actual Czech republic. Mom's mom's Hilde's Grandma was born there. Her parents all come from there.

Sorry. No Danish. But lots of Dutch. Oh, and you forgot our largest chunk of lineage: German!

We also have some French and Canadianon Dad's side; and Jersey on Mom's side. That's Jersey the country, not the slum suburb of New York.
