My Little Velociraptor

Do you remember the scene in Jurassic Park where they show the dinosaur scientists the raptors' enclosure? The tour guide talks about how clever the raptors are, how they systematically test the perimiter to see if the electric fence is still on and if there is a weakness. And then later in the movie, the power goes down for only a few seconds and the raptors manage to get out in that short amount of time. Well, Beck is like that. I have every cupboard and drawer in my kitchen carefully rigged, buckled, taped, rubber banded, fastened and locked tight so that he can't get into them. But the second I forget to fasten any of them, this happens...

You would think after trying the cupboards 100 times a day and finding them always locked, he'd give up. But evidently he keeps checking them systematically, waiting for a weakness. Clearly my perimeter needs an upgrade. Maybe a high voltage electric fence? Na. Entertaining as that might be, the Lucky Charms just aren't worth it.

He has to be the cutest velociraptor I have ever seen! Those kiddos are darn persistent when it comes to finding the food. Especially the good stuff.

While I think all kids are into cuboards to some extent, the boys seem to be extremely determined and persistant, what with all those inborn hunter/gatherer tendencies.

Kids are determined little buggers aren't they? I had a cupboard I used to lock & Hannah checked it regularly. I think knowing the contents of that cupboard kept her desire peaked enough to remember to check for access.

I don't even bother with the locks, buckles, snaps, and gates anymore. My three-year-old has figured out how to crash down or knaw through every single one. They're slick, these little ones! :)

Maddie is the same way! Except she likes to empty the cupboard completly out and climb in. While I cook dinner I am constantly tripping over my tupperware and plastic stuff. I HATE those cabinet locks and only lock up the really dangerous stuff.
