Seriously, you and I are TWINS. I just borrowed the first 2 books from my neighbor Thursday night. I haven't started yet. My mo--in-law just gave me Nephertiti to start. I'd rather read it.

It is not a literary masterpiece, but fun all the same...I had to read them too just to find out what all the hype was about.

You'll NEED heaven's help! I got tricked into starting them at Nicki's when I didn't know they were THE Vampire books of fame and legend. But I liked them a lot. There's deep delving into emotions, which enriches any reading experience for me. And the Vampires are neither responsible nor willing to be vampires, it being a tragic disease, which I also preferred to bloodthirsty, selfish killers. They do all they can to live lives of goodness and compassion in spite of their unwanted genetic propensity. (besides being incredibly rich and handsome.)
It makes me think of what life would have been like for Adam and Eve if they had eaten the fruit of the tree of life AFTER the fruit of knowledge. They could never have died, no matter how damaged they became, or sorry they were for their past behavior, or wretchedly tired of living. They would have been stuck in flawed mortality, as these vampires (and the werewolves too?) are.
I can see where romantic young women would become totally mesmerized and addicted to these books FAST. Never have I read such seductively innocent literature! Nothing R rated is ever actually done by the protagonists, but the boiling, frothing emotions of love and lust beneath it all are definitely HOT STUFF! A lady who will remain single and determinedly chaste for the next 30+ years definitely doesn't need this kind of panting temptation.

Jen just started, too, to see what all the excitement is about. We'd never heard of the books until everyone talked about how great they were. She said the first one was good, not great, and she's having a hard time getting through the second.

Welcome to the club! At least now you can read all 4 of them together and not have to wait to see what happens.
