Bang! Bang! You're dead.

So I got my hair cut last week. And I decided to get a little brave and have some bangs cut into it. Not full-on bangs. Just some shorter pieces around my face. Shorter than I've ever gone. The last time I had any bangs was in 8th grade. In 9th grade I started growing them out. What a nightmare! Have you ever tried to grow out your bangs? Bangs that are being grown out are the equivalent of an 11 year old kid--still small enough to be considered a child, but with huge teeth and huge feet that cross the line into adulthood. They just look awkward. Well, there is about a year where your bangs are just this long chunk of random hair next to your forehead--too short to fit in with rest of your hair, but too long to be bangs anymore. They're horrible. Then the next year, if you keep trimming the rest of your hair, they get close to the front of your hair while you were sleeping as a practical joke. Eventually, your bangs blend in beautifully. But it takes serious patience during the ugly phases where you just want to cut them off and be done with it. So you can see why I had misgivings about cutting in any bangs, even just a few. And the verdict? They're driving me crazy! Not because they look bad. I actually like the way they look. But because I haven't had any hair near my eyes for 15 years. I can't tuck them behind my ear. I can't even clip them back without looking like my kids did my hair. They just hang out in front of my right eye all the time. ARGGGGG!!!! It's maddening when I bend over to pick something up and it is blocked from my view by a segment of my bangs. Or when I'm trying to clean something and I bend down and suddenly my vision is obscured by the bangs. And don't even get me started on how I just about lose my mind when I'm trying to work out at the gym and that one piece keeps tickling my eyebrow. Yeah, cute or not, I think I might have to let my bangs grow out again. And won't that be a joy.

(This is the actual hairdo. But it feels more like the picture above.)

My preferred style when I'm lounging around at home is to braid all my bangs then clip them back off my forehead. Usually I don't forget and go to the store with my bangs like that. But it has happened.

I think it is cute! It is hard getting use to bangs if you aren't use to them.

Is it sad that even though I did notice your cut before anyone else, I didn't notice the bangs? Sorry. Anyway, yeah, my problem with bangs is that this time, I kept cutting them shorter and shorter. Not too short, just short and I need to have a prof. do it for me. blah

your hair looks great! I will admit that I have been wanting to cut bangs recently, but your post has helped me remember how much I will HATE them again! LOL!

Your hair is super cute! I love it! I know what you mean about growing out bangs though, I've done it so many times and it's always awkward forever. Something that works sometimes is twisting them into the rest of your hair, then securing it with a small claw clip or barrette - that's what I used to do when I'd put my hair in a ponytail for working out.

well, you are one crazysexycool mama with the bangs---just think about how sultry you look everytime you lean down and they drop down in your eyes......work it, sista!

ps, have you not seen my "pretties" photo? i work the clips even though i'm not a ten year old. embrace it.

I love your hair! I wish I was brave enough to go for bangs again. I grew mine out in 7th grade too - and I never looked back.

I think you look fantastic!!! I am in the process of growing my bangs out too because I just don't know what to do with them. I think when you are bang-less for long enough you just forget all the tricks!

I braid my bangs all the time...only I actually leave the house that way. I actually think it looks cute. In fact, I had them braided today. I think your cut looks cute!

It looks great! I have had bangs all my life, thanks to the helmet head that I have, and it's not that bad. Embrace the newness and I agree, work it!

I don't mind wearing clips and looking 12 when it's a day I'm being driven crazy by my hair. My other option is a baseball cap.
