The Price Of Cool

I walked into the living room this morning to find my daughter watching the Imagination Movers on Disney. And I thought to myself, "What a bunch of dorks. Look at them jumping around and hamming it up like complete idiots. I bet they are so embarrassed when their friends find out what they do." And then I realized that they are making money doing that. And I thought that there is probably an amount of money someone could pay me to dance around like a fool on national television. And it probably isn't that much. But since I'm not currently in the employ of the Losers Incorporated, I feel completely free to judge and proclaim: What a bunch of tards!

You do know that these guys are the American attempt at the Wiggles. And that the Wiggles are Australia's highest paid entertainers. So they can make fools of themselves all the way to the bank.

I have a really hard time watching grown men act this way, but Josh loves them and their web site actually has some fun games on it :)

Hey, I'd do that for free! In fact I do, come to think of it, and your children love me for it! That's the reward of UN-cool, and I'll take it ANYTIME.

(Which is why you, Jennie and Ben are embarrassed to be around me. But your kids sure aren't!)

I bet they don't feel so silly when they get those paychecks! But yeah, I do wonder what specific career choices would lead you to be in a music-for-children band.

There's a local coffee shop here that does a kid's music day once a week and a band called Rocknoceros http://www.rocknoceros.com/ comes in to play for the kids. It's really fun, but part of me has to wonder - who are these men in their mid-30s playing gigs for 3 year olds on a Wednesday morning?

We had a missionary serving in our area recently and we were doing "the chat" and he said that he wants to be in Children's Entertainment when he finishes his mission and school. I was floored, because it never crossed my mind that children's entertainment would be a pursued career path. I assumed it was something you fell into. And what have these guys been doing with their lives up til now? Did they come home from their nine to five one day and announce to their wives that they were tossing it all in the can to be on Disney? And I am quite sure they are making bank. Maybe I should help the hubby rethink his career path!

Funny, I was just thinking that yesterday. When it came on, I turned it to a different station and Ridge freaked out, so I turned it back. Then I thought to myself, how embarrassing it must be to tell people, Hey that's me!

Never seen them. And I am okay with that.

My dignity is worth too much to make a fool of myself like that. I can make a fool of myself in many other ways, like wearing a black belt with my brown slacks.
