1987 Vogue

On Saturday, we went to Big Daddy's 20 year high school reunion. (I know, OLD, right? But fortunately I married one of those guys who gets better with age. He's at the peak of handsomeness now.) Even though I didn't go to his school, I know enough of his high school friends and their wives that it was fun. What was more fun was the slide show they did half way through with pictures of the students and faculty from the 80's.

In preparation for this slide show, and the badges everyone was to wear, Big Daddy had to find a picture of himself from his senior year. And finding it was such a trip down memory lane. Down 80's Street, to be exact. And that's when we found this gem:

HOMECOMING 1987:
There were so many n classically 80's things about this picture that I thought I'd do a little vote to see which one wins as the most quintessential 80's thing of all (click to enlarge. And you will want to enlarge to see some of these elements in their full glory):

1) The mullets
2) The white pleather pumps
3) The lace sailor collars on the dresses
4) The hair wings
5) The bad perms
6) The acid washed chambray shirt (courtesy of Big Daddy on the back left)
7) The white button earrings (front right)
8) The white lace stockings (front center)
9) The Sperry Top-Siders/Dock-siders (back right)
10) The ubiquitous claw bangs

So what do you think? Which one most says "80's Vogue" to you?

I've never seen pictures of him in High school! He's so much cuter now!

I think the claw bangs are the most obvious 80's choice, but I love the white pantyhose with white pumps AT A FANCY DANCE! It's anti-sexy.

I looked exactly like the girl in the center all the way through junior high and high school! My favorite is the hair wings! I swear I have seen this picture before, where did he go to school?

LOVE IT!! And that hair cracks me up. The blonde on the left, I can just imagine her doing her hair by spraying the sides with hair spray, pulling out the blow dryer and drying it until crunchy!

Classic!!! How can I vote for only one?

Hmm, I think I'll have to go with the mullet.

Those darn white pleather pumps. How uncomfortable were they?

The mullets. Definitely the mullets. Although those doily collars run a close second!

I actually had a doilie collar on a maternity dress that I had---and yes, I had a perm at one time in my life---so those are my fav's---the big hair is what I love the most!

I have always been especially gagged by the big friz of bangs that stand up like a store-front marquee above the forehead. I didn't know what they were called, only that they looked hideous, and how could ANY girl ever think she looked cute that way! (But then, I came from the cast-iron Beehive Hairdo generation.)

Mullets out of fashion? Hey, just attend a country and western dance, and you'll still see mullets all over the guys (especially matched with cowboy boots and big belt buckles).

I am having unpleasant flashbacks brought on by those white pumps. Wow.

This had to be in Utah, right? I don't remember seeing that much sleeve on anyone at a semi-formal dance in the 80s.

Chelsea, ya, I think it must have been a Utah thing because no one wore anything that Puritan to any of my dances in Detroit either! Especially homecoming!!! Church on Sunday, yes. But not to a semi-formal dance.

The lace collars are what get me! Love the picture :)

Oh my gosh too funny! I would have to vote for the hair wings!

I heart that photo.

I think the lace collars were a Utah thing though...

How can you go wrong with hair like that? I still see some of it now coming out of certain neighborhoods.
