(High Sugar) Food For Thought

My husband emailed me this and I just couldn't help but pass it on. Some of it is actually quite startling.

Sugar Cube Math. Each cube is a teaspoonful.

So what they're saying is, I should cut out my Cinnabon and McFlurry breakfast? SONOFA.

I was all proud of myself at the beginning of this post, and then as I scrolled it slightly bummed me out. On the upside, I'm going out to buy a buy a box of sugar cubes. It will save me time and be funner than trying to find a Cinnabon in Mexas.

(PS: YES! Send me your recipes! They sound AMAZING!!!!!)

This is crazy! Of course, I will be going for all the food with the highest sugar content.

Did you HAVE to put the skittles on there? Really?

I really think ignorance is bliss where Cinnabon is concerned. Crud.

My question is how many sugar cubes are we allowed to have in one day?

I like the sugar cubes being used for illustration. The glycemic effect of sugar is also something that I focus on I eat my sugar after working out it can aid in muscle protien uptake.

White refined sugar found in coke is very different than sugars found in oranges and bannanas.

Grams of sugar per day? I eat about 1/2 gram per pound of bodyweight. There is debate in this area that says up to 1 gram per pound of bodyweight. Your illustration shows how quickly you can get past that number.

GREAT PHOTOS!

I would just like to say that I refused to look at the actual sugar content. It would ruin my day and make me cranky-and who likes a cranky pregnant woman?? Besides--you forgot the MOST important rule--if you SHARE then there is no sugar and no fat and no calories...so there you go.

Fascinating, but what I really loved was your commentary at the end!

Is it bad that even after seeing how much sugar is in that stuff, I'm still craving them?

Soda doesn't use sugar- it used high fructose corn syrup. Which I've heard is worse for you. Not sure if that's true, as I just started reading up on it.

Thanks A, now I feel obligated to do something about it ;) Ok lets be honest I can just keep lying to myself about my sugar intake like I have been all along.

Let me second Tom's point: there is a difference between good (fruit) sugar and bad (refined) sugar. So there's really no comparison.

Tom and Alex sound EXACTLY like GUYS -- who are, moreover, into bodybuilding! They need an estrogen fix to truly understand us!

I never grant myself a Cinnabon except pre-flight at the airport (to calm my nerves and reinforce the pleasurable side of cramped seats at 450 m.p.h., 5 stale pretzels, trying not to merge skin with the sweaty guy next to me, and an inevitable cold the next day.) I look fondly forward to that favorite, fatty and flavorful sin. BUT TODAY THE PORTLAND AIRPORT DIDN'T HAVE A CINNABON STORE! Talk about a crushing blow!

The more sugar, the merrier, regardless of the type of sugar. Whether fructose, glucose, sucrose, lactose, galactose, jennyose, snickerose or others, it's gonna be good.
