Truth or Dare

Recently Tiburon challenged her readers to a dare: Do a post showing yourself au naturale. Now you all know that I am a serious make-up wearer. I don't wear a lot, but I wear it ALL THE TIME. I wear lipstick and cover-up even if I'm in bed dying. I don't go to the gym without those two, even if I'm doing water aerobics that day. I just don't feel happy with my looks without a little man-made beauty. So this was a serious challenge to my pride, to show you the real, down and dirty me. But I'm nothing if not daring. So here goes....

Before....

After...

So now I guess I'm supposed to say something intelligent-sounding and introspective. Ahem...Let me deconstruct these two pictures:

Pic # 1: My upper lip has no color. I am having some sort of re-visitation of my 15year old skin. Only my 15-year old skin was never that bad when I was 15. Shouldn't it be against the laws of physics to have wrinkles and acne at the same time? My eyelashes are STICK STRAIGHT. My eyelash curler is my best friend. Well, my 3rd best friend after lipstick and cover-up. I have inherited super dark circles under my eyes. It doesn't matter how much I sleep. They are there making me look like I just finished a heroin binge, every day of the week. This picture doesn't really do them justice, but trust me, they are crazy dark.

Pic # 2: I have good lips. My mom felt bad for me when I was a kid because I had such full lips. Now she is jealous. As long as I wear make up. 'Cause otherwise you can't see them. I have nicely shaped eyebrows. They had Brook Shield's beat out in the 80's, but then I discovered tweezers. Oh my sweet love tweezers. Next, it took me most of my life to realize that I have great hair. I never understood all the commercials for volumizing products until I felt my sister's hair and realized that some people's hair is fine and flat (sorry, Jen). Me? No, I'd say boofy is the right word. I should have taken a picure with my hair air-dried for full effect. Anyway, the down side of super thick hair is that I have to have my stylist thin out the mass every 9-12 months, and then it still takes me 30-45 minutes to blow dry and straighten it down, one layer at a time. But I've come to realize that I might be the lucky one.

Well, that's enough of that. Overall, I'd say I'm really glad I live in this era of mascara and powder and smoothing milk for my hair. And I'm sure everyone who has to look at me is too.

What about you? Are you up for a dare???

No way I'm doing that! But you don't look that bad without make-up. Maybe you needed to have that "before" picture really close up.

you look great either way!

are you letting your hair grow long?

I saw this challenge the other day and am delighted to see your version! I'm so behind on the learning curve that I had to get one of my girlfriends to help me buy makeup just so I could participate. When I learn how to use it all, I'm joining in.

You look hot!

And can I say, since I've seen you in person, you have the most beautiful skin ever. Seriously, I couldn't stop staring at you. I'm sure you could feel it.

Way to play along the right way!

No, you don't look like a heroin addict. I see no dark circles anywhere.

Sigh, I never wear make-up. You look great both ways, very natural.

So if that's your natural look I'm jealous...and no--I will NOT up for a dare--I would frighten small children

Sorry, there is not enough difference between those two photos, you lucky, gorgeous girl!

I have to say that I prefer the top picture. Really. I am not kidding. I am a big fan of tweezers, but lipstick and face cake, not so much. In fact, I might just have to bookmark this post for my future enjoyment.

The first thing I remember about meeting you "Davis girls" was how serious you were about your lipstick. Jennie about had a hard attack when she saw that I wasn't wearing lipstick on my wedding day :) And there is no way I'm taking part of this dare - I am so NOT photogenic, make-up or not!

Alex, don't you dare! You're grossing me out. That top pic is ICKY.

I think you look fantastic in both pictures! You have no need for makeup.

Way to play along! I think you are beautiful in both, I do however understand the need for man-made beauty. I am completely on your side with that.

If you were smiling, it would be even.better.

I agree you should be smiling... you have a lot to smile about! You look great both ways :) I totally agree with the lipstick.. I dab a bit on even if I have to (gasp!) go without make-up every once in a while.

You look great both ways, most people can't have both, you got it girl!

You have so much natural beauty.

You are stunning!
Love this dare.
I may do it, if I can find the time, dangit!

I guess I'm just repeating all your other friends: You are beautiful no matter what. But you are wholesome on the upper picture and SMACK ME DOWN DEAD in the lower one.

That's why I had my makeup tattooed on! And I'd do it again! All the pretty color, but none of the work and goo.

I have to say that the pix with your blog looks so deceptively MEEK! You are really quite raz-a-ma-tazz! I'd like to see that lower picture in as your blog I.D.

I still think what I thunk when we were younger, you're pretty. WITH OUT makeup. Makeup just enhances.

You look so much like Daphne in the picture without makeup...it actually caught me off guard. I've always thought she looked like you, but that picture, seriously...

Thank you so much for playing along - but I knew you would rock this - since I have seen you au naturale before :)

I am doing a post to recap all these next week too - so it will get dug back up :)

Did it...after all, as I said before, I am usually up for a challenge. Glad to hear that you were brave as well.

However, Jacob? I went with the first thing i could think of and unfortunately, he was not it...

Thanks for the visit.

I don't understand why you are afraid of the before picture. I didn't see the complaints you had about it.

You're beautiful in both.
