The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (for real this time)

I know I just sort of seemed to say that Christmas was the most wonderful time of the year, just a few posts ago. But really, Halloween is. Christmas is all good. The lights are nice, the food is plentiful, the presents are great. But I seriously LUH UH UH UV dressing up the house for Halloween. And I'm not much of a seasonal decorator. But something about indulging in the gory, the spooky, the scary and the creepy suits my fancy. So tomorrow, out come the decorations. Ghosts hanging from my trees, the graveyard in the front yard, the skeleton bones on the buffet table, the blood dripping down the front door, and all the cute little bats and witches and pumpkins everywhere. If only I had more surfaces....

My new project this year is to make a sac of spider eggs. I saw one at my sister in law's house and it was delightfully disgusting.

What are your favorite Halloween decorations, either hand-made or store-bought? Feel free to included picture links!

I freakin love Halloween!

I bought a GINORMOUS bat with glowing eyes that I am going to hang on the front of my house.

So excited about it :)

I've kind of fallen behind in my decorating although I do love it. I have a large spiderweb that I love to hang up. That's about as creepy as it gets here at our house. BUT we did buy a cool new candy bowl. One where when you reach to get candy a skeleton hand pops out and grabs at you. Can't wait to use that one!

Awesome post! I love irreverently carved pumpkins, like the puking one. It's totally overplayed, but they crack me up EVERY YEAR.

I think that my son would like to live with you----he LOVES to have things outside for decoration at Halloween. He is always trying to get me to buy more things for the yard....

Also, thanks for the great comment on my blog---you are super!

I am coming into town on Oct. 13----will be there about a weekish----I would LOVE to get together with you and a few of the other gals!!

This post title is how I knew following your posts could only mean good things for me...

And yes, they do sell things LIKE these ladies. But where we are, nothing as ornate. You gotta' get deep in the heart of Mexico for the good stuff.

Eh Halloween is good and I love getting the kids all dressed up, but I'm too chicken to get dressed up myself. But I can get all crazy about Christmas, I even bought a Christmas album this week.

Yesterday I was on the phone with my daughter talking about going up to visit them next week. While we were talking, my 3-year-old granddaughter came in and sat beside her mother who asked her if she knew who was coming. She sid "Halloween."

"Not what. Who? Grandpa is coming next week."

I heard my granddaughter say, "that scares me."

"What?" my daughter says. "Why does grandpa scare you?"

"Not grandpa. He's not scary. Halloween. I'm scared of all those decorations that pop up in people's yards."

I'm lame about Halloween too and I don't really get into it. But we do get pumpkins and carve them.

My favorite part of Halloween was making schnitzel and pumpkin pie with candles to celebrate your father's birthday, then staying home while he took you kids all out. The best came last: stealing my favorite candy from your stashes!

I wish I had ever thought of dressing MYSELF up! That would have been way cool (except that only 3 kids came to our door in our lame neighborhood. No wonder you guys combed the other neighborhoods of the city!)

Chelsea shares my thoughts exactly. Did you take pictures of yours and Big Daddy's costumes this year?
